AN IMPERFECT WORKSHOP FOR THE CREATIVE CURIOUS was the focus of a workshop held recently at the NOOSA REGIONAL GALLERY’. Artist and Textile Designer JULIE PATERSON shared her love of sourcing ideas and inspiration from the local landscape, encouraging artists to loosen up through spontaneous ink renderings of found materials. Cutting stencils, selecting colours and overlaying designs resulted in highly original compositions.

The LOTUS pod and flower has always attracted my attention from direct observation within the landscape to its depiction in Buddhist art. On a recent visit to QAGOMA ,I found a beautiful scroll in an exhibition entitled “A fleeting Bloom” Japanese art from the collection. It seemed a perfect validation of my previous print which drew inspiration from a dried pod.
