ENTRANT in the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize 2018 at the Noosa Regional Art Gallery 19 October – 2December.

“Tree of Life – secret garden” represents an imaginary landscape referencing textile designs from Indian dowry bags made by Rabari women. Rich in patterning, motifs are strewn across the surface. The  geometric ‘shards’ create the patterned border but also extend out from the body of work to form tree-like branches. Birds hang upside down in a rich landscape reminiscent of parrots feasting on palm flowers with only their tails visible as they embed their bodies into the hanging palm. Meanwhile others fly across the highly charged surface of pattern and colour .
