A lifetime of exploring
colour, texture and patterning
My work represents a window into a lifetime of exploring my love of colour, texture and patterning. A continual sense of play with a myriad of themes often linked to experiences related to my travels in Indonesia, China and Northern Australia dominates my practice. Simple everyday observations and an appreciation of nature can be found in my watercolours and works on canvas. I have been an art teacher and practitioner for over 40 years continually expanding my repertoire in my preferred visual area, Painting.

About Ruth
Ruth Horton is an art educator and practising artist living and working in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Her works on paper including watercolours, pen and ink studies and large-scale oil paintings mirror a lifetime of observing nature, people and cultures. Having spent extended time living and travelling in Indonesia, China and the Northern Territory has allowed her to focus on a myriad of themes from the study of textiles, landscapes, animals and plants to capturing figures engaged in play. Her work is lively, colourful and highly personalised. Currently her attention has focused on the natural environment with birds, fish and coastal themes predominating.
