  • /THE ARTIST’S DIARY – COCKATOOS AND HERONS

From observing Sulphur-crested Cockatoos in local parks, Yellow -tailed Black-Cockatoos flying over hinterland scrub on the Sunshine Coast and the Night Heron nesting in their favoured tree along the Noosa River, I was inspired to record these engaging creatures in oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings.

Recent discovery of the works of taxidermist and painter Anthony Alder (1838-1915) held in QAGOMA ‘s collection and restored by the conservation team, afforded more insight into the renderings of a colonial artist. Red tailed Black Cockatoo and Heron’s Home are two large scale paintings which invite attention
