THE ARTIST’S DIARY – “AFTER RABARI”

  • /THE ARTIST’S DIARY – “AFTER RABARI”

Stems from my investigation of Rabari textiles from Northern India, where women gather daily for the afternoon ritual of embroidering and socializing. The Rabari people are nomadic and the women decorate their houses, bodies and dowry bags with elaborate patterns and symbols. My intention was to capture the liveliness and celebratory nature of women’s work. High key colour, pulled threads and jeweled inserts seek to also mirror a “woman’s wealth”.
