Image: Extracts from Edo screen (1650) and oil on canvas (2018)

The current exhibition at QAGOMA,  A Fleeting Bloom.
Japanese art from the Collection,
sparked a genesis of an idea to combine Edo screens depicting pheasants and foliage with “extracts” from my paintings of backyard garden series , in particular the sighting of a ‘pheasant coucal’ beside the pool.  “There’s a Pheasant in my garden” explores the variety of native plants and blooms around my suburb.
