“Serendipity’…fortunate happenstance or a pleasant surprise

Remember hydrangas, those old fashioned plants adorning the gardens of the 50”s. Now reappearing in their sheer beauty in a recent Ikebana arrangement at the Queensland Art Gallery courtesy of the volunteers from Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland. It seems the fashion elites like Dolce & Gabbana have reinstated this beautiful fleur to adorn shoes and frocks. Just adding in a touch of sparkle. These shoes were spotted in Venice perched atop a glass table.

Dolce & Gabbana shoes and my take on the Ikebana arrangement

The desire to adorn is not new as the silk shoes from the collection of Hungarian textiles and costumes located in the Art Nouveau building of the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest attest.   In the 60’s, artist Andy Warhol  was famous for his depiction of shoes , illustrated in watercolour for large department stores. Like the watercolour illustrated he too enjoyed adding personalised captions.
